guys have an 2004 ford f350 drw 4x4 6.0 truck. while driving down the road the water in fuel light comes on and glow plug light, if i dont lift of gas pedal it will die, if i let off gas pedal and coast until lights turn off i can ease back in throttle and keep going, only done it a few times.
it has egr delete on engine.
where do i start looking? local shop wants to replace the ficm, but i thought that only really mattered when it was in a cold start situation and this truck alway starts good cold. i am in nh as well so it gets cold here
please give me some ideas.

I would check wiring harness, especially around valve covers. Almost sounds like you are losing the run circuit and then when u let out of it , it connects the wire back. Leave it running and do a wiggle test on all the wires u find
