I got new tires today, Toyo Open Country HT "Tuff Duty" in 285/75R16E. We'll see how well they do in the snow. Town Fair Tire has a 30 day "test drive" policy so if they aren't to my liking I'll go back and probably get Goodyear Dura Tracs.

Nice truck. I've got the reg cab long bed version. Same color Fx4 and chrome nerf bars.

Tires look like they'll be pretty good on pavement and rain. Let us know how they do in snow. We just got like 10" here last night and today. I've got some BFG ATs on mine and I'm impressed. They handle the snow like a champ. Didn't even need 4x4 til snow got deeper than 4 or 5 inches. Parked on the shoulder in front of my house in all the snowplow pilings no problem.

 

I had the same size Nitto Terra Grapplers on it before these, got 45-50K out of them and they still had tread left. In the last storm we had about 20" of snow and that clinched the decision to replace the tires. Since most of my driving is on the road and highway I wanted to go with a more HT style tread. We're getting 4-6" of snow Friday so I'll get a chance to see how these tires do in it, both with and without the plow. The shop manager has Toyo OC HTs on his truck (though not the "Tuff Duty" ones) and said they do fine in the snow. If they aren't up to my expectations I'll go back to an AT tread. I'll post an update in the next day or so with my experience with the Toyos.

I kept the old tires and gave them to a guy at church who is unable to work due to getting rear ended(he was stopped and the other driver was doing about 40 MPH...) and his neck and back were messed up. He's putting them on a Suburban and wanted to upsize to 33" tires, and the ones on his truck are old and starting to crack on the inside. He doesn't drive anywhere near as much as I do and figures these will last him at least a year. I told him it was just a little bit of GWP(God will provide)....

BTW, it was $1372 out the door for a full set of 5 tires. I got a matching wheel from the junk yard so I could do 5-tire rotations and make them last longer.

 

Subscribing... I am curious to see how they do. My winter tires are Toyos as well but are these ones. They are great in the snow and on ice. I don't like how they handle at higher speeds on the highway though. They feel very loose. It could be caused by the size though as they are fairly wide.

 

The HT is not a snow tire, but it is a durable highway tire. For a great all-around snow/ice and highway tire I'd go with the Toyo AT as Super08 has and I had on my '03. I was very impressed with the performance of my siped Toyo ATs on snow and ice.

 

We ended up with about 4" of powder the other day. The truck did fine, it even was able to push back the piles from the big snow. By the time I was done with the plow the roads were pretty well cleared so I didn't get to see how it did without the plow on it, but I'd have to say that I'm happy with these tires. I'm hoping that I get a little bit better mileage with on road driving. They are well siped so wet driving should be good too.

 

I will be interested in how the Toyo Ht performs as the winter progresses. I have the Rugged trail bfg that came on the truck (2011 F250) and they are really bad in the snow. I almost can't get out of my driveway with 4" of snow without putting it in 4X4. Will need to look for another tire for winter use as they seem to handle good on dry and wet roads. On my last truck 2000 GMC I had Cooper ATR and they did well year round.

 

The tread on those HT's reminds me of the Michelin LTX I had on a 1/2 ton about 12 years ago. They didn't look like they would work very good in the winter, but to my surprise they were great. As a bonus they were extremely quiet and handled well.

I gotta know however, For those of you running the HT tuff duty tires, How are the after a couple of years. How do they do in the snow when they are half worn. I live in the high Rockies and am sick and tired of buying AT tires that turn into ics skates when the are half gone. ltx m/s2 are OK but don't last very long on a 7,000 lb truck.


I'd really appreciate your opinions on the HT Tuff Duty tires after a couple of seasons.
