Alternator Quit

After 166k the Alt. finally had enough. Surprisingly no Gen/batt light on. The only indication was the Abs light was on when I started it yesterday. I was going to scan it when I got home but it wouldn't start after work. New Motorcraft alt. and maybe 2 new batteries we will see how they test out.

Had mine go out at 135k miles on my 01.

Dropped new alt and 2 batteries too...

Nothing worse then trying to find someone without a big truck who's willing to give an Ex a jump start... Thankfully in Texas this isn't often an issue

Just replaced mine at 128k. I can't get the ABS light to turn off. I've followed the procedure to clear the keep alive memory but it still won't turn off. I'm sure it is because of the bad alternator. Is this something that I am going to have to take it to a dealer to have done?

Have your batteries fully charged and see if that works. Maybe get 2 new batteries?

I forgot to mention that I replaced both batteries at the same time. The truck is running great but the light won't go off.

I had same issue with mine...unhook both batteries to kill power, flip the headlight switch on to drain any residual power in the system. Give it 5 min, reconnect and go, should be no problems from there.

I am thinking there is another ABS problem. My light went out as soon as I started it with the new alternator. When the alt. quit on the v10 it overcharged everytime. It would peg the gauge and stuff quit working from the over voltage. I would unplug it drive 10 miles and plug it in for 5. It took a while but I got home. I wish that would have happened this time.

I guess there could be a problem with the ABS system but it just seems weird that the light came on when the batteries went dead from the bad alternator. Is it possible that there is a code stored that keeps the light on and that it just needs to be cleared?
