96' F-250 exhaust?

it's a 96' F-250 PSD 4x4 Extended cab short bed....My tailpipe is broke just before the axle. I've been thinking of going up to around the rear of the cab and cutting it, putting a 45 degree angle in it with straight pipe running to just in front of the rear wheel. Then getting a nice Slash cut tip for on it......Anyone have pics of this or see any issues? Thanks a bunch

I built both of these. Either one will make your wheel dirty with soot even if your truck is stock. Just a stock truck will just give it a little haze. Modded and it will be black.

Get that original downpipe out of there if you haven't already while you're doing exhaust work.

i agree get the stock downpipe out of there. I was surprised at how restrictive it was.

X3 on the down pipe. From the turbo to the area under the cab, that down pipe is very restrictive.

Best thing you can do for your exhaust

the second pic is what im looking to do. I don't mind a dirty wheel....I've considered upgrading the downpipe but wasn't sure if I was up to doing it. I read it can be a pain to fit in there. How much would a decent downpipe be? Im not looking for anything expensive. The truck is currently all straightpipe. My only plans for the truck is maybe a downpipe and most likely a 3 or 4 position tuner........I wanna keep it simple, I have a 96' Camaro and I'm well aware of how addicting modding gets

I have the Tymar S.S. downpipe. Most pricey (cause I got the stainless one), but I do things once and stainless is a once kinda thing. Plus, I like how it went from 3" at the turbo to 3.5" halfway down and then 4" at the bottom

You can get a nice aluminized downpipe for like 90 bucks. Here's something to ponder. The stock downpipe is flat as a pancake. So what good is a straightpipe exhaust after the downpipe if its restricted first thing after the turbo? Get yourself an aftermarket downpipe and run your straight pipe with the side exit. Maybe cost you 200 total assuming you buy a nice angle cut tip. It's well worth the money to have the aftermarket downpipe. And powertools make the process easier in getting the new pipe to fit. Most people use a portapower to widen the passage next to the firewall.

Mine is 4" and exits out the side right behind the cab and I don't have sooty wheel problems. My pipe sticks out about 3" from the edge of the bed and I don't have any soot problems and I have Stage I injectors so it smokes quite a bit.

I have the Diamond Eye 3" downpipe, it's a aluminized, 2 piece, pretty easy to install. Less than $100. Just search for posts on here about installing it, there are lots of good hints. You'll need a good sawzall with extra blades and something to bend the firewall seam a little to help make room for the new pipe.

That along with a 6637 intake and a 4" exhaust helps these engines breathe a LOT better.

Intake, exhaust, and gauges (EGT, trans temp, and boost) are the best beginning mods. After that you can get into chips and bigger injectors, etc.

It all custom made. Had to come up with an exhaust for when I have my topper on. At the time I didn't have a tail pipe and I didn't want just the standard 45 angle pipe. Gonna be going with a tail pipe some time so my side pipe will be for sale!
