59 f 250 engine swap

I am getting ready to start my build on my 59 f 250 4x4. I am not interested in keeping the original 292 or manual trans. I am leaning toward a 460 with a AOD trans. Is there anything you guys can tell me to watch for as far as transfer case, diff's, etc. to save some future headaches??

Tomba,Welcome to FTE, always glad to see another Fridge on the forum. You should be able to use the search bar on the first page of the 48-60 forum.Just type in"460 swap" and see what you can find.I've kept my old Y-Block and 4-speed,so I'm not much help, but here's a thread or two to get you started:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...1960-f100.html

Once you have made 25 posts, you can start P.M.'ing people directly to ask specifics. If you can, it's helpful to put your location in your signature at the top.Good luck.

the only factory overdive Ford offered for the 460 is the E4OD which is based ont he C6. very tough dependable tranny but the only thing is it is electronic controlled so if you are using a carb engine you will need to get a stand alone computer like beauman engineering offers to operate it properly and adapt a throttle poistion sensor to the carb. pretty easy to do. they were also offered in 4x4's so you should be able to find a E4OD and transfer case unit at the wreckers or thru rebuild shops pretty easily.

as far as making it fit into the 59, that i don't know.

good luck sounds like an interesting project.
