Hi from a new member, I have a wheel ?
I have a 1966 F-250. The old split rim tires are shot. I cannot find any local shops that will even look at them. Coker tire has no listing for them either.
Question1 what modern wheel will fit my truck?
Question 2 Will modern wheels and tires fit in the wheelwell. I had this problem with a 1953 Mercury, Tires were to wide to fit.
I do not need fancy chrome wheels (but that would be nice)
Truck is not 4wd
Thanks Randy
BTW I found this site by accident Nice to find ford truck people

I just replaced my aftermarket wheels/tires with the original split rims and new bias ply tires. The bias ply tires are still available both made in the USA and overseas. If you want to use the split rims, try calling tire places that deal with the larger trucks. That's where I got mine done....Joe

Limbs and lives have been lost dealing with those old split rims. They are a real BAD choice to use even when you can find someone to work on them.
The 8 lug is a Dana axle lug pattern, wheels from older dodges and chevies can fit. Always do a test fit to see how they work on your truck before laying any money down.

There called widomakers for a reason.
Any ford eight lug rim untill the introduction of the F250 super duty will fit as the pattern is 8 on 6.5". Chevy will fit and some dodge with the larger center.
Newer rims will clear disc brakes. Rims can be had in 16.5 or 16 inch sizes. Stick with 16 inch as tire selection is much better.

Randy,
I don't believe that pre-'96 chebbie wheels will fit your '66 F250 8-lug axles - their center hub opening is too small. Only 8-lug wheels off a Ford or Dodge (bigger center hub opening than Ford) will bolt on without incident.
Unless you're looking for a period-correct restoration, I'd also steer sharply away from using the 16" split-rim style of wheels - because of the lack of available tire service.
Lastly, if I were buying non-split rim wheels, I'd also be leaning hard toward 16" wheels, since the market has a better 16" tire selection than there is for 16.5" (not available on '66s), 17", 17.5" or 19.5" wheels.

Barnie,
First of all thanks to you and the other members here,
My 66 has a few mods. A/C, power steering [Out of a 79 Bronco],
power windows so I don't mind mods.
My dad purchased this truck new from Bob Davidson Ford.
We did a frame off resto 18 years ago but for the last 2 years it has been a caribbian turquoise paper weight. The tires are dry rotted. I found no one to service them and knew the danger about split rims from my dad. He is 74 now.
The only concern I have now is that the original tires are narrow.
I had this problem with my 1953 Mercury, modern tires were wider and I had trouble fitting them into the wheel wells as well as fender skirt clearance. I used 14 inch dodge wheels in the end.
I will hit the junk yards with the info I learned here and get the poor old paper weight back where it belongs.... On the road.

Hi
Going through the same considerations this week myself. Finding knowledgeable people to help you buy tires and rims is hard. I am actually trying a rim from Discount tires they let me purchase it to take home and try the fit and look. They told me I could bring it back if it did not work. Stopped by a lot of stores near where I live with little help. I called JEGs and talked to this guy he gave me some good ideas but the choices are slim with the old school look. Good luck and if you find some info out please let us know. Be safe
