Air cleaner over heating??

I took my truck this morning to drop off an air compressor at my brother in laws house When I turned it off at his house, I opened the hood and coming from around the top of the engine there was this popping noise (not like a misfire, I had to get real close to the engine to hear it). It lasted for about 5 minutes then the noise died away. So I opened the air cleaner lid and smoke or steam came out of the air cleaner. Was it just the warm air hitting the cold air and causing vapor or should I be concerned??Is this normal? And has any of your engines made a popping noise after a cold start while the engine was off??

BTW: One of my injectors are leaking, I don't know if it could be related....

The noise was probably just the exhaust cooling after being to operating temps. I would say the vapors was just the warm air hitting the cold.

The popping could be related to the injector, or it could be a leak onto a hot object, the smoke in the air cleaner is normal, the the CDR(crank depression regulator) tuna can looking thing at the back of the intake(non turbo) driver side valve cover(turbo idi engine) it lets the crank case gases go into the intake to be desposed of

I was thinking it was related to the injector too.

I hoping to get a turbo pretty soon.

You could have a slobbering injector that is bleeding off fuel into the hot cylinder when you turn it off. To locate it you would simply pull the injectors and the wet one will be the culprit.

One of them is leaking, so I was thinking that was probably related. When you say slobbering injector, you mean one that isn't closing?

I don't know about anybody else but when I remove the stock air cleaner top I get some smoke. Not much just enough to be able to see it but from what I have heard that's normal. After a few seconds it clears.

I would advise check the coolant level.......cold, it may be slightly low.
