torqueshift trans fluid

I need clarification reference ford/motorcraft part number on transmission fluid. Dealer #1 says XT5DM, which I think is MERCON V, is correct for my 2006 F250 5.4. Dealer #2 says the correct part number is XT6QSP, which I think is MERCON SP according to fcsdchemicalsandlubricants.com. It needs MERCON SP and dealer #1 is wrong, correct? Thanks

Dealer #1 doesn't have a clue. Run far away.

Dealer #2 is correct. You can also use XT10QLVC. The SP specifed for the torqshift is being phased out and is being replaced by LV. SP is probably getting hard to get by now and both are compatible with each other.

Just picked up two cases at the Dealer not to long ago. I asked him about the replacement for SP. I was told that Ford has changed their mind on LV's ability to replace SP and have now gone back to recommending the SP. Correct or not? I trust the guy and everyone can be wrong. As far as a Torque Flight transmission. Is it a four or 5 speed?

Thanks for the information. Dealer #1 had done the trans flush using MERCON V a while ago. The shifting was harsh and hesitant after, they said nothing wrong. Took it to dealer #2 who did the trans flush again using SP, everything running great now. There doesn't appear to be any damage to the trans. I'm in the process of trying to get reimbursed from dealer #1, who besides being incompetent could also use help with their customer service. I just wanted to make sure I have all the correct information as I take my complaint to the next level. Thanks Powerstroke-wannabe

It is a 6 speed. Sometimes does not use all 6, depending on circumstances.

Here is a thread on this.

I have not seen anything from Ford saying they changed their mind about SP vs. LV.

I changed my tranny fluid just before this came out, so I'll keep the SP in until I need to change again.

First I've heard that. I had my tranny flushed by the dealer a couple weeks ago and they used the LV. Was told this particular dealership no longer has SP in stock and is using LV for all torqshift flushes.

According to this they are recommending the LV, all though when then just did mine (the second and correct time) the dealer used SP. Not even a mention of LV. Maybe it's dealer's choice or what ever they stock.

The reason the Mercon V damages the torqueshift is because of the Megatronics inside the torqueshift. The Megatronics (which is a valve body full of solenoids) need the SP. Weather or not LV is replacing Sp...IDK.

Mercon LV

This is the 2007 news release regarding LV. It indicates that it does NOT replace SP.

LUBE REPORT: Ford Unveils New Transmission Fluid

Ford later issued Special Service Message 21114 which, in part, states

"ALL 2003-2008 F-SUPER DUTY, 2003-2005 EXCURSION, 2004-2008 E-SERIES AND
2006-2008 LCF VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A TORQSHIFT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD
BE SERVICED WITH MERCON LV AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID IN PLACE OF MERCON SP.
THIS INCLUDES TOP OFF AS WELL AS FLUID REPLACEMENT. MIXING MERCON LV AND MERCON
SP IN THE TORQSHIFT TRANSMISSION IS ACCEPTABLE. USE MERCON LV TRANSMISSION FLUID
TO SERVICE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH TORQSHIFT TRANSMISSIONS. WHEN ADDING OR
REPLACING TRANSMISSION FLUID IN A VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH A TORQSHIFT
TRANSMISSION, USE MERCON LV TRANSMISSION FLUID."
