Is 3V louder than 2V V10?

I just traded in my 2001 Ex V10 to an 2008 F250 CC LB V10 and noticed the engine seems slightly louder than the Ex. It doesn't run rough or misfire or anything but it sounds a bit louder and I was unsure if that's normal for the 3V vs 2V? I drove it to work and back today (about 60 miles round trip) and I love the feel of it with the higher HP/tq and 4.10 gears (had 3.73's in the Ex and it'd downshift on the big hill between home and work unless I let off the gas and babied it). Now I can't wait until Easter weekend to take the trailer out and see how it tows.:-)

Totally guessing here but maybe the Ex had better sound proofing? Does it sound louder in certain situations or all the time?

The 3-valve has different exhaust manifolds, more like a header than a log - and the intake is much different - that might be the difference you hear. But the newer trucks have MORE soundproofing I think because of the newer diesels and the market wanting less noise.

It doesn't sound louder in the cab, just when I was looking under the hood with it running, and it's not a lot louder but it was noticeable. It might've just been the manifold difference and intake, I was just trying to see if anyone had listened to both run and noticed a difference in the sound (I think it sounds a bit tougher, but that might just be wishful thinking :-). I've driven it to work 2 days in a row and am really loving it so far. Now I've just gotta get the windows tinted and remove the directional light in the bed (it was a work truck previously but doesn't seem to have been beaten on and they had all the maintenance records for it which was nice) and it has the paddle mirrors so I'll be swapping those out before tow season starts Easter weekend.

What kind of sound does it make? Vacuum/sucking/intake, exhaust, or valve train? Or just "generally" it's louder?

Even aluminum valve covers versus plastic I would imaging can make the valve train louder or quieter...

I think it's just "generally" louder. I did look under it and it looks like it might have an aftermarket muffler that gives it a nice tone, I'll have to look closer when there's not snow in the driveway and I can get under it without freezing. It was a work truck previously and still had the yellow directional lights on the bed and I took those off after work today, it made a huge difference and looks a lot better.
