I also recommend that you have the heads magnafluxed. Fuel leakage has been traced to cracked heads. Also the cost is cheap compared to pulling it down again and new parts.

During some routine maintenance i have sent the antifreeze and oil to blackstone for reports and show no fuel in oil and no containments in antifreeze, heads and gaskets seem to be great, but before i install turner i am putting in new gaskets and studs

Cheezit, are there any indicators concerning how bad head gaskets leak that gives you any forewarning as to out of spec head warpage? Have you seen any patterns that would give someone any idea what to expect before they pull it apart? I'm only seeing evidence of head gasket leakage under heavy load and was trying to calculate for a worst case senario befor tearing into the engine. What's the cost of a new set of heads for the 6.0?

new way to tell how bad they will be.
dealer procing on heads I think is about $1600 ea. but I really bad a the pricing game. best bet is to call a dealer and ask.

Thanks, I didn't know if there would be any obvious patterns or not. No wonder the heads are decked so much at that price.

I was looking at a video from Ford the other day in which they said, and I quote "Warped heads are a rare occurrence".

That was good info Mark, that you can only check flatness on one plane.

Checked heads saturday night and all checked and cleaned well, i actually used the .002" feeler guage to start and none of the 13 spots were loose whjile using it. Have heads and studs in, motor was 100% as of last night, installing cab tonight, Prob would have had it done over the weekend, but during assembly saturday i found an oversite, i forgot to order rubber gasket between head and rocker box, so truck had to sit and wait till monday.

I own a small diesel shop and work soley on the ford diesel lineup. When heads come off there sent to a reputable machinist. If they are more than .008 out they get replaced. .008 is pushin it tho. from expeirence, heads shoulds always be milled or replaced when removed. No exceptions with me. Btw....ford says .004
