99 v10 and 5w-20w oil?

I have been using Valvoline high mileage blend 5w-30w like the manual recommends, but have been using 5w-20w Motorcraft blend in the wife's 08 Fusion. The newer Ford v10's recommend 5w-20w has anyone been using 5w-20w in the older v10's? It would be nice to have one type of oil in the garage.

General rule of thumb is that in "normal" climates, you can go one grade lower or higher with minimal risk.

That said, it is asking a lot to use one grade heavier in the arctic during winter or one grade lighter in Phoenix during the summer! If you are going to do that, use synthetic for extra latitude.

Mws250,

I was kinda thinking I should be O.K. up here in Wisconsin for the winter months. I will be switching back in the warmer months to 5w-30w.

Motorcraft 5W20 works well in all the modulars.

Thats all I use along with either a Wix or Motorcraft filter.

Ford recommends 5W20 for all modular engines including the V10.

Sounds good. My 1999 owners manual does recommend 5w-30w though.

Ford changed there recommendation.

They intend for it to have 5W20.
