IPR sensor?
I just unplugged the ipr sensor and the truck starts now! BUT as i research IPR sensors to get a new one, they look nothing like what i am dealing with. The sensor I unplugged is located on the back of the HPOP and screws in horizontally. It has a grey female plug attached with just a chrome nut. That is only visible. Which sensor is this? I know it's not the icp either, we changed that already.

You can test the resistance of the sensor. Here are the values:

Well here is the story. The truck has been have an intermittent problem of shutting down while driving, mostly at idle but one instance coming down hill with a trailer. Once it shuts off, it just cranks and won't start. We have changed the CPS, ICP, new batterries, and changed the oil. The code that pops up is the P1249 which is the waste gate that has no relation to what's going on. What would caus the big 7.3 to just die. Oh and when it dies. Its like you shut off the key. It doesn't hesitate or idle down. It just dies. It happened awhile ago but has been fine the last 6 months.

Yes it will. You may have a bad EOT sensor. By unplugging it the PCM may use a default EOT. If it is reading way to high the PCM may just shut down the engine and also may not allow it to start. Next time it dies or won't start and you unplugg the EOT sensor and it starts the sensor would definitely be suspect. I don't like to throw parts at a problem but you have already changed the CPS and ICP sensor and the EOT sensor is pretty cheap.

Another update, The truck started fine and started driving to the dealer and it died again. Opened the hood and unplugged the EOT sensor and no luck so I doubt it is the EOT sensor now. The only thing now is the IPR but from what others say, The Ipr will make the truck run bad but the truck runs perfect when its working.

For a test, you can start the truck cold, and let it idle in your driveway, in about 10-17 minutes the truck will quit running just like some one had turned the key off. it will take about 45 min to an hour for the truck to restart. If this happens then you have a bad IPR.

You have a bad IPR. IPR's can be cleaned and re built, but most folks dont seem to have good luck with that approach. I suggest replacing the IPR(injection Pressure Regulator) with a new one.
For a test, you can start the truck cold, and let it idle in your driveway, in about 10-17 minutes the truck will quit running just like some one had turned the key off. it will take about 45 min to an hour for the truck to restart. If this happens then you have a bad IPR.

The solenoid (an electro-magnet) that goes around the IPR should ohm out between 10.2 and 10.6 ohms and hold steady. That's the range on some I have. Just loosen the nut, remove the spacer and pull it off the IPR. If it has any kind of intermittent short or open the needle valve inside the IPR will not move properly and/or default to open dumpimg the HPO into the front cover.

Well another update, Took it too a buddy at a dealer that hooked it up to their scanner (free of charge) and said all the codes pointed towards a bad computer, a $1000 part. F that. my dad was the one that took it and actually put it back to stock settings on the hypertech programmer, they then hooked it back up to the ford computer and the mechanic said everything looks back to normal. He said that the programmer is conflicting with the trucks computer and said It might completely fry the computer. What the F***! Is this believable and I need a tuner, the stock program makes the truck shift extremely hard since I have a fully built suncoast tranny and billet TQ. What do you all think of this?

Interesting.
I had a similar experience.....code C1284, Pressure switch failure.
The engine would restart for only a moment, then shut down.
I noticed some residual oil around the ICP sensor and disconnected it - the truck started back up and is running fine with the exception that I have a MIL present all the time due to the code and disconnected sensor.
Two shops say the PCM uses a default setting to allow the truck to run.
I'm on the road and so far it is working until I can return home and replace the ICP sensor.
The sensor is located as noted in the pic above - on the front of the driver's side head on the valley side.
If you replace the IPR is there any adjustments required after the install?
