6637?

So let me get this straight....a $66 kit suddenly turns into $100 kit with the $17(!) shipping, and the EXTRA $14 for the "special" 45 degree elbow for our trucks! I know it comes with the kool filter sock, but f#@k! I just picked up a Fram filter for $20, and a pvc 45 from HD for $2! Not trying to knock somebody's buisness, but seriously! Yeah...mine doesn't look as nice as a powder coated piece, but it was $75 cheaper for bAsically the same thing....yes it will need some tweaking to get everything just right, but again...$75 more in my pocket.

I know...if you don't have anything nice to say...don't say anything at all. I just wanted to vent a little.

Not trying to start a war here...I understand the saving money part. But 10,000 miles later take pics and compare filtration between the 6637 and the fram. I did my 6637 mod for 60. 45 degree elbow from home depot and a 6637 filter from napa.

Go check out the prices for "cold air" intakes for our trucks. Now THAT'S what is rediculous. A couple panels that "seal" against the hood. Give me a break. I don't mind giving my money for the quality returned. I'm sure the kit is easy to put together but I sure as heck can't bend a 4" pipe and if I could I wouldn't be powdercoating it. Add that plus the big dog Baldwin filter. A few extra dollars and now I've eliminated something else to worry about on my rig plus I know that my turbo and engine are safe as far as incoming air goes. To each their own. My only complaint is that I didn't get a RiffRaff sticker!!!

Only problem is you have forgotten the SS T-bolt clamp, time involved running around, install time/figuring out how to make it work and I can't comment on the Fram filter quality. I am very happy that you can do it locally and I don't take any offense to it. We sell the best quality kit we can at just enough above cost to cover card fees and time to assemble, so basically no profit. Also, the "special" 45* elbow is almost the most expensive part since it is mandrel bent. Why do we do it? Because we saw an opportunity to help guys out from paying $45-$60 at Napa for a filter and then run around town for parts, since we have the buying power to get everything for them in bulk.

So please understand when you see a price tag and want to compare, be sure to compare like to like. Good luck on your intake and post pics when your done, maybe you have found a filter that needs to be considered.

Hi Clay,
Currently have a SB Cold Air, want to try and sell (know anywhere other than Craigs List or Ebay) it and get one of your systems and pocket a little bit of the money. I was looking on your site and saw you have the AFE Big kit and the standard 6637. What is the performance upgrade from the regular 6637 kit? Also curious if it comes with a standard filter cover and you need to pay for "color" cover. Thanks for your time.

MHammer21, this should help you out. You get your choice of Yellow, Red, Blue, or Black cover with the kit.

Riffraff Diesel: RDP 6637 Filter Kit

Oh yeah, I got a sticker too! Gotta rub it in when I get the chance...

Nothing wrong with the S&B kit, that is a good quality CAI and at a great price as well. But if you want to sell it you should know that the real world difference between the AFE and 6637 filter is mainly that the AFE is washable. Technically it is able to flow more but we don't know how much because Donaldson doesn't provide a restriction value on the 6637 numbers. So if your looking for performance there isn't really anything to be gained between the different ones, just the ability to clean it. It does come with the filter cover as it is the same dimensions as the 6637.

Figure $5 a year to replace that PVC after the engine heat distorts it and the frustration involved with constantly replacing it (not to mention potential engine damage) and that expensive piece of mandrel bent 4" tubing suddenly seems like a pretty good investment.

I'm new to this diesel thing and have also done the PVC 45 trick.

But consider this, the I.D. of that PVC 45 is way smaller then the I.D. of the steel 45. Not sure if thats a big concern, but It's all I can think of right now.

I didn't know about the riff raff diesel kits and the tymar kits when I had my 6637 filter shipped to me. I spent $40 for the filter shipped and $3-5 for the PVC fitting, but I'm still gonna order the nice kit with the smooth steel 45's and new boots.
