Since ill be moving up there soon, I was wondering if I will need a block heater in my truck. Its pretty cold blooded as it is, anything less than 30* and shes hard starting. It a block heater a necesity thing in Montana or what?

 

Well, since it's been known to get down to 40 degrees below zero at least once a winter, I'd have to say yes. Unless you have a garage you can park in you'll need a block heater for between 4 and 6 months straight (depending on where in the state you are), since that's how long it'll be under 30* at night.

Also, invest in some Under Armour Cold Gear compression wear or you'll freeze to death...

On second thought, why don't you just stay in AZ? It's way too cold for your rig and you up here.

Pickup trucks in Montana have Winterfronts (cardboard zip tied to the grille) and two cords hanging out the front, one for the OEM block heater that burned out, and the replacement (or if its new enough, one for the OEM and one for an oil pan heater). I know guys that have removed their cooling fans in the winter. My Jeep hasn't had a fan in two years, its okay even in the summer.

Yes, you'll want a block heater. My Jeep doesn't have one and hasn't had any issues, but its pretty new too.

 

Im in the process of scrounging up some material to cover up my new radiator that I just replaced. Damn thing is nice, only its a super cooler which is somewhat counterintuitive with the onset of winter almost upon us.

 

Dang thats crazy...cant wait. lol
