Life expectancy

I'm looking at a 01 ranger with 155k on it and I'm wondering how much life is left in it. It's single cab with 4 cyl 5 speed. By the way the guy wants 2800 for it. What do you guys think?

I've got 147xxx on my 2000 single cab, 2.5L, 5 speed, 2wd. Running strong and smooth. Of course, when I bought it, I went through it and changed the timing belt, plugs, etc...

The mileage is up there but it depends on how well it has been maintained during those miles. Does owner have records to back up any maintenance that has been done? The engine should be the Duratec 2.3 16 valve engine. One problem spot on the manual is the rubber shift rail plugs can leak out fluid so check on that. Has tranny, differential or brake fluid ever been changed? Here is a link to NADA that can give pricing info for your area .

Hey guys thanks for your replys. Here's what I know about the truck. Since it's at a small car lot I have no idea what kind of maintenance has been done on the truck and there are no records in the glove box. It is a reg. cab 2wd in realy good shape. The AC also seems to work extremely well. As for what size motor I'm not sure but I do know it only has 4 sparkplugs and not the 8 like the older trucks. The interior is extra clean also. The seats are not worn or stained and there are no heavy wear marks on the pedals. It is a light tan color. So let me know what yall think.

I paid $3300 for my super clean 2000 regular cab with 157,000 miles. I'd buy it.

Looks like you've got a truck already.

price too high, but small car dealers have to make money off of someone (sucker).

Have all systems inspected by and throughly a professional that you pay for his (or her) opinion.

This is what you have to look forward to: I have 218,500 miles on my 98 2wd Ranger. (3.0 w/5 spd) It doesn't burn any oil and still gets about 24MPG. I've taken very good care of it and I dont mistreat my little truck. It still has the original clutch and U-joints. In the state where I live, the dealer is required to give you contact information on the previous owner, if you ask. If you dont ask, they dont have to tell you. I always ask and I always contact the prior owner.

I second the opinion on having it checked out by a qualified mechanic prior to purchase. It could have a whole lot of things going on that you are unaware of and costly ones at that.

If it has been maintained, it could be a great truck for a long while yet. As for life expectancy, if the body is in good shape and the motor is taken care of, expect to get well over 300,000 with it. Don't forget the manual trans likes some TLC too.

Where is this truck located? Be wary of rust on the undercarriage

Well I live in southwest LA and thats where the truck is. I guess if it was at an auction there's no telling where it could be from. If I get the vin I could probley call the dealer and figure out where it has lived. I did crawl all around the underside of the truck and it looked prety clean. Thanks guys.

You can pay to have a VIN run on a vehicle to bring up it's history. Some dealers offer a free check through the company but many don't. Get VIN from dash and check it out. Once again money well spent.

i have a 96 splash that has 270.000 miles with the origonal engine and trans
the body is still in good shape.im rebuilding it into a low rider.with a jag rear axle.250 inline six .no more gutless 2.3.so the rebuild has cost 3000.00.but its worth it
the origonal splashes are worth more to me not that stupid overpriced edge

did you steal my truck? haha just kidding. i own a 97 b-series with the same mileage and i just replaced the clutch because the carrier bearing wore out.

in response to the original poster, i wouldnt buy that truck for that much money. i support anyone who buys a ford/mazda but get one from a private seller and not a rinky-dink corner dealer.
