The Chumpsters' Dumpster - Pic Heavy
I've slowly been working on this project for a little over a month now I suppose... It's been so slow around here that I thought I'd finally make a build thread for it. Not an official truck, but close enough for my liking.
The Immediate Plan: Truck cab up on a Bronco frame, D60 front, 10.25 rear, 460 swap, C6... future plans include lockers, lower gearing, 2nd gen 10.25 ring/pinion upgrade, disc brake conversion, tube bed with built in storage and fuel cell
The Chumpsters' Dumpster B-350 Project
humble beginnings
pulling her apart.
fiberglass floors!
rot and quarter panel separation.
not all the body mounts wanted to play nice.
torsion bars make awesome pry bars.

sawzall solves all.
these body mounts were going to be removed anyways... so no worries.
the fun things you find
up...
and over.
firewall pulled, frame painted, and ready for the cab to go up.
the cab that's going on.
i'm taking the frame and cab over to my friends house tonight so he can put the cab on with his skid steer. so hopefully i'll have more to add soon.

it's an '86 cab that i grabbed during the cash for clunkers fiasco. the cab came off of a texas truck that made it's way up to illinois. it was a nice truck, with the only body damage (you can see it in the passenger door) from the end loader at the junkyard. the bed was rust free, but majorly messed up from them forking it, which sucked since i would of grabbed it as well. the cab is in nice shape, with only some minor rust in the roof that i need to fix.
i'm happy to report that the cab is on. my buddy called me before his lunch break and offered his help and the use of the chain hoist at his work for the cost of a meal. it's good having friends like him. he's another ford nut and is probably just as excited with the project as i am. i really wish i had better pics, but my digital cam is on the fritz. oh well, here's what i got to show for now.
seeing the cab up is a great feeling. i was more worried with how i was going to get that part done than anything else. i now have to fab up a crossmember for the rear cab mounts... lots more work and fabbing ahead for me, but at least another step is crossed off the list.

I seen a pickup cab on a Bronco frame around my area, it looked good but the rear wheel wells didn't match up correctly. I think the owner used a long bed side and hacked it down.
Good ole Dewalt sawzall, I had one just like yours, that thing cut apart over 30 cars in its lifetime(over 12 years hard use)! Only the plastic handle cracked(my kid dropped it) and there was no fixing it.

sure, it looks great in the first pic, i agree with that, but otherwise it was junk. the floor had been patched with fiberglass and none of the underlying rust taken care of. both quarter panels were poorly replaced by a p.o. and starting to break free on both sides. the rockers were going on both sides and bondo falling out of the door sills. the rear sill was rotten and a repair attempted by the village idiot, so the rear of the body was free floating... and slamming down on the back. so, no, it wasn't a shame.
thanks kirby. i'm pretty proud of this project. i saw my first truck cab/bronco combo on ebay a few years back and have always wanted to build one since. anyways, here are some more pics of the rig as she stands.
