1960 f100 4x4 project.
Hi all,
About a month ago I saw a 1960 f100 4x4 on craigslist and decided that I needed it. What I'm wanting to do is a diesel conversion. I working on finding parts for both the truck and the parts I want for the diesel. I want to swap heavier axles and suspension under, but I don't know what years have the same width of axles and suspension. I'm planning on boxing and stretching the frame to take the added drive train weight and length. this what kind of drive train I hope to find and piece together.
Engine. Hopefully a 4 or 6 cylinder cummins.
Transmission. Depends on what adapter plate is on the engine, but I want a 5 or 6spd manual.
Auxiliary transmission. 3spd Brown Lipe 5531c. direct drive 1:1, under drive 2:1, overdrive .73:1. I already have complete with shifter and linkage.
Transfer case. Spicer 24, 2H 1:1 and 4L 1.86:1
Axles and suspension. I want to find 3/4 or 1 ton to replace my 1/2 axles with.
Anyhow that what I'm wanting to do as I find the parts and money Oh, btw the truck's name is Abby.

well i would probably go with a nv4500 for the trans as it would already be set up for the cummins and they are stong boxes. you will probably have to find a two wheel drive version to hook to you brownie box. axles started to widen out it the seventies but you might be able to find some that will work. and it sounds like a sweet truck your gunna build.

Welcome to the board!!
That will be one mean truck when it all gets together.
It might be worthwhile to check out the show "Trucks" on PowerblockTV. They have been combining and mid 70's Ford with a Cummins diesel;

I know its not exaclty what you are doing but it should give you some idea of whats involved. I've seen a couple of the episodes and they give great tips and tricks to the Cummins engine and 5spd tranny. I'm not sure how many episodes there are but you might be able to buy them on one DVD.
Good luck

Advance adapter's has all sorts of adapter plates for Cummins B model engine.
I really want to run a zf6 or nv5600 transmission, but I'll probably end up running a nv4500, m5r2, or zf5.
I'm really sure that the frame is going to get stretched about 2ft, so the back drive line can run at a doable angle and length. I haven't a clue how the front drive shaft is going to work, because of how damn long it will be.
What do you folks think about coupling the trans, brownie, and t-case together by the yoke to yoke? What I trying to say is, take the tranny yoke and then take the brownie and put the same yoke on the brownie as the tranny. So, I could couple them together by tranny output yoke - u joint - brownie input yoke. I was thinking it would work, but that don't mean anything. Do the same thing with the output on the brownie and the input on the t-case.
I'll have get myself account some sort of online picture album, so I can get some pictures posted of Abby.

So, Abby might be getting moved out to the pasture for a while. I bought a 1979 crew cab f250 at an auction for 636.00 and it's in really good condition. I'm the 2nd owner and it's Idaho truck so there is no rust. I'm probably going to work on the f250 and keep collecting pieces for Abby.
