Ford’s Mexican Plant News Good Sign for Bronco and Ranger
It made news that Ford was going to invest $1.6 billion in building a new small car production facility in Mexico. Whether or not you believe that to be a good idea, if you are hopeful for a revised Ranger or Bronco, you’re in luck. This news doesn’t seal the deal, obviously, but it’s a step in the right direction.
If y’all don’t remember, let’s play some catching up. The United Auto Workers (UAW) wanted increased wages and bonuses for their members. They achieved that goal to great success under the stipulation that the automakers would continue producing their high profit-margin vehicles in the United States, but could move their lower profit-margin vehicles out of the country.
This would allow union workers to make more money because there was simply more money to give. Part of this process also includes moving Focus and C-Max production from Michigan to Mexico. Ford has said on numerous occasions that even after that happens, nobody will lose their job at that plant.
Instead of using that plant in Michigan for this new Ford small car, they’re waiting to announce what they’re going to build there. This news of the investment in Mexico means that they aren’t just planning on putting the first car or truck they come up with in that facility, but that they have detailed plans for what will go there.
We know the Blue Oval has plans for a load of new SUVs, and I’m sticking with my proposed timeline for Bronco and Ranger rollout starting as early as next year.
