Watch This Ford Maverick Drag Race and Autocross
The Maverick is far more versatile than one might think.
Multi Purpose
The Ford Maverick's cheap price tag and amazing efficiency continue to make it one of the hottest new vehicles on the market today, as well as one that's frequently modified. We've seen both lowered and lifted Mavericks out there already, as well as ones that have hit the drag strip and/or the show circuit. But this particular pickup - owned by David Buschur, a member of the Maverick Truck Club - lives its life on more than one kind of track these days.
Impressively Quick
Out on the drag strip, this Maverick truly proved its capability recently when the mildly modified pickup ran the quarter-mile in just 13.56 seconds, which was good enough to take second place in the EcoBoost class at a local event. Not too shabby for a nicely equipped XLT trimmed pickup with all-wheel drive and the FX4 Off-Road Package, we'd say.
Modest Upgrades
This particular pickup has been fitted with Buschur's own Pro Vented Catch can, front mount intercooler, cat back exhaust, 3" intake, and a custom tune via 5Star Tuning. Ultimately, the pickup wound up finishing second at this particular event, which is a pretty nice result given its modest upgrades.
Multi-Purpose Pickup
While we rarely ever see drag racers compete in things like autocross, this Maverick also wound up doing quite well in that event as well. In fact, the small pickup finished fourth in a field full of all-wheel-drive cars, which is probably better than anyone would have guessed.
Stock Bits
What's even more impressive about this particular feat is that the Maverick is still running its stock suspension, as well as the stock wheel and tire setup. Buschur didn't bother to swap on some sort of stickier rubber to shave tenths of his times, but we imagine that it could benefit from that sort of upgrade.
Simple Upgrades, Great Results
In the meantime, the owner of this Maverick will continue to develop and sell his own upgrades for the small pickup, and we imagine that plenty of folks will be happy to purchase them. After all, if simple bolt-ons can make the cheap, popular Maverick this capable, why wouldn't they?
