Looks Can Be Deceiving

In recent years, we're starting to see not only more and more old Ford trucks fitted with entire front suspensions and powertrains from vehicles like, say, the Crown Victoria, but also complete rolling chassis swaps as well. Not too long ago, Solomon Lunger of the Ford Era YouTube channel showed us a '70s F-Series pickup with a Raptor swap, and now, he has discovered something equally cool - this 1972 Ford F-250, which is all brand new Super Duty underneath its vintage, patina'd bodywork.

Old and New

This particular 1972 Ford F-250 Crew Cab is owned by a fellow named Jack, but it only looks like a vintage '70s pickup from the outside. Underneath that skin, this truck is actually a virtually brand new 2022 Ford F-350 Super Duty, but it most certainly didn't start that way, as one might imagine.

Well Preserved

Rather, Jack spotted the old, crusty pickup while driving through Wyoming, but it took a full year of pleading with the rancher who owned it to part ways with it. Shockingly, the truck had no rust anywhere, which Jack credits to the fact that oil cans popped open in the cab, coating everything and preserving it as it sat in a field for many years.

Getting to Work

There is plenty of patina to be found, however, both from the elements and also from this truck's hard life as a ranch truck. Thus, Jack took the F-250 home and left most of that stuff alone, but proceeded to spend the next three months swapping out the truck's chassis and mechanical bits with the ones from the newer Super Duty, which obviously required a ton of work and fabrication.

Perfect Combo

The Super Duty that donated its parts for this project had the relatively new 7.3-liter Godzilla V8 and 10-speed automatic transmission, which is perfect for this project, and with all of those modern goodies, Jack reports that it runs, drives, and performs like a brand new pickup. In fact, he's already driven it on some pretty long road trips with zero issues.

Proper Mix

From the instrument cluster to the powertrain, this old F-250 is basically brand new in many ways, taking the concept of a restomod to a completely different level. The mix of old and new actually works, too, as those modern bits mix right in with the original bench seat that's been recovered, along with a retro-style radio.

Best of all Worlds

It obviously took considerable work - and talent - to make this unique project come together, but the end result is one of the cooler vintage Blue Oval builds we've seen in some time. After all, who wouldn't want an old, cool-looking truck that performs and drives just like a brand new one, with a modern pushrod V8 underhood, to boot?
