Strange Ford Ranchero Rides on F-Series Chassis
Builds just don't get much weirder than this doubled-up Ranchero riding on a full-size pickup frame.
Elephant In the Room
It goes without saying that we've seen some strange rides over the years, and we've also featured our fair share of them. But this Ford Ranchero, which recently popped up for sale on Craigslist and was discovered by Jalopnik, might just be the weirdest thing we've come across yet. There's so much to digest here that it's hard to figure out where to begin, but we'll start with the elephant in the room - this thing's highly unusual body modifications.

Why Ask Why?
The mad scientist who created this Ranchero essentially stacked two bodies on top of each other to make the whole thing work. Why would anyone do such a thing, you ask? Well, we ask ourselves that very question a lot these days, and we still haven't found an answer. So let us know if you figure it out.

Old School Conversion
What's been done underneath this Ranchero is actually quite conventional by comparison. It's been mated to a 1974 Ford F-250 chassis, giving it Dana 60 axles and a rather high stance. That sort of conversion was quite common in its era for a variety of vehicles, and sure enough, this exact vehicle was apparently constructed by a third-party builder way back in 1974, when it was brand new.

Wrenching Required
The stacked, high-riding Ranchero at least should have plenty of power under the hood, courtesy of a 429 cubic-inch V8 that's mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. However, the motor has a spun rod bearing. But it was also being sold with a new crank, so it should presumably be back on the road after a little wrenching.

Living On
Unfortunately for anyone interested in this wild machine, it has already found a new home. Hopefully, the new owner will fix it up and perhaps even give it a nice paint job. We'd like to suggest a Ranchero GT scheme like the one shown above, personally. Because even if it is huge and incredibly weird, this old Ford deserves to live on if for no other reason than to continue to make people scratch their heads in bewilderment.
