Daily Slideshow: Strange and Interesting Variations on Ford Trucks
As the bestselling automobile line in history, the F-Series has become a popular hotspot for fancy trims and style mods. Let's go over some of them.
The $300,000 Auction F-150 Raptor
Part of the joy of being a truck enthusiast is getting to see interesting "one and done" takes on our favorite models, like this uniquely trimmed F-150, courtesy of Ford themselves. The F-22 Raptor F-150 Raptor (try saying that five times fast!) was explicitly created for a charitable cause, given a unique grille, paint job, and luxury add-ons in the spirit of the F-22 fighter jet. The truck was auctioned off in 2017 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, at the Experimental Aircraft Association's annual AirVenture expo. Proceeds aimed toward the EAA's own Young Eagles initiative; a program for educating kids about aviation. A solid cause if you ask us.
How much did this special Raptor go for? A whopping $300,000. For reference's sake, that's almost six times as much as a standard model.
GB Special Fly from Brazil
If we're talking about strange and interesting Ford trucks, we'd be remiss not to bring up something from Brazil. South America is saturated with regional offshoot models, and while we considered bringing up the F-1000, the GB Special Fly takes the cake for now. Essentially a cross between an F-Series pickup and a conversion van, we're surprised there hasn't been more of a market for a versatile get-up like this in the States.
The Pinnacle F-250 Stretch Limo
At first glance, a pickup limousine comes across as weirdly kitschy. A stretch F-250 with space for 21 passengers is good if you want to attract a lot of attention to yourselves, and it could even be practical for desert parties. In Las Vegas, where this model was found up for sale, either reason's completely valid. Hats off to Pinnacle Limousine Manufacturing for bringing this weird F-250 to life.
The Ultra-Limited Ford SkyRanger
The SkyRanger is a quaint peek into the past. As weirdly stylized as this production is, it's technically an official Ford model. Tested out as a luxury convertible take on the Raptor, fewer than twenty ever rolled off the assembly line.
The New 2018 F-150 Police Responder
Although the idea of Ford creating vehicles for law enforcement is the old guard by this point, the 2018 Police Responder is something new. Touted as the first "pursuit-rated" pickup truck on the market, Ford has paired the functionality of a pickup truck with the performance of an interceptor. You can check out more about the 2018 Police Responder on the official Ford webpage here.
This modded Ford Mini-Monster.
Put to show at the 2016 edition of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), this is an aftermarket splice between an F-150 and a Bronco. What we might only call a "mini-monster truck," towers like a beast in the midst of other off-roaders. Just look at the Jeep to the left for a point of reference and you'll know this one isn't messing around.
The Newport Convertible F-150
The F-150 has long since become a staple with city drivers as much as the rural and working demographics pickups tend to be associated with. While the idea of a convertible F-Series isn't fresh, this model from Newport Convertible Engineering demonstrates owners can still get their soft top dreams realized without the official option.
