Retro Second-Gen Bronco Looks Great With Select Mods
This 1978 Bronco certainly looks like a fine relic from the disco era.
Better Than Good
Many would argue that Ford got it right with the second-gen Bronco, making what they consider to be the perfect iteration of the off-road SUV for a mere two model years. To this day, second-gen Broncos are highly sought-after and increasingly valuable, but that doesn't mean they can't be modified to look even better, as this sweet 1978 model recently featured at Ford Daily proves.

Sunsets
Owned by a fellow named Rustin from Texas, this 1978 Bronco is still being wrenched on, but we think it looks pretty amazing as-is. One of the first things he did to the SUV was add sunset stripes to the sides, a la the Freewheelin' package from this era, and they look simply fantastic over the Bronco's tan paint.

Beefed Up
Rustin also lifted the second-gen Bronco a total of five inches over its stock height, which gives it a menacing stance that simply looks awesome. The big-bodied SUV also utilizes Super Duty axles underneath to beef it up for off-road use, which is something we bet it's quite adept at.

Fit the Theme
The big lift also makes room for a set of meaty 35-inch tires, which look perfect on this gen Bronco, in our humble opinion. They're wrapped around a set of black wheels, which are nothing fancy, but that's precisely why they fit the theme so well.

Does the Job
The interior isn't perfect by any means, but it's in nice enough shape for a driver. The gauge cluster has been replaced with an aftermarket setup, and the radio is missing, but pretty much everything else here is original, save for the mountain range sticker somebody stuck on the glovebox.

Original Power
The original and stock 351 V8 is still sitting under the big hood of this big Bronco, which has been treated to an HEI distributor and a 100amp alternator to upgrade the electrical system a tad. Otherwise, it's more than enough to get the full-size Bronco around town and down the trails.

Shining Example
Overall, Rustin's 1978 Bronco is a fine example of why we love this generation so much. Even with just a few simple upgrades, he's turned it into a formidable machine that's equally fun on paved roads and dusty trails, and it certainly looks cooler than just about anything on either.
