Pair of Ford Econolines Tear it up at the Drag Strip
Check out these two first-generation Ford Econolines battle it out on the tarmac.
Econ O Line
Introduced all the way back in the year 1960, the Ford Econoline was designed as an affordable and smaller pickup truck. Racing would have likely been the last activity folks would associate with these haulers. Times have changed! The drag strip is no longer reserved for muscle cars and sports cars. Today, we see all kinds of vehicles equipped with ultra-powerful engines and capable drivetrains. And little ol' first-gen Ford Econoline is no exception.

Duel
It's a sight to behold, a '60s Econoline tearing it at the drag strip. But two have two of them racing at the same event is mind-blowing. That's exactly what happened at the 2022 Glory Days vintage drag race car show. The two vintage haulers even had a head-to-head against one another.
Haulin or Not
The first pickup in question is this 1961 example owned by Johnny "Bucket" Scheele. This sleeper is instantly recognizable by its unique livery, especially the word "Haulin" hand-painted in orange against the vehicle's teal body. The second Econoline participant, a 1963 model with a slightly more stock look, belongs to John Erdman.
5.7-Liter Ford Power
Interestingly, both trucks are built with Ford 347-ci stroker small-block V8s. While no power output numbers are known to us, it's apparent that both of these vehicles are built for straight-line acceleration. Don't believe us? Watch the video!
Head to Head
Having shown off their speed against other competitors, it was inevitably time for the two Econolines at the event to race each other. It becomes clear very early on, that 'Haulin' is quite a bit quicker than its counterpart. Bucket's truck finishes the quarter-mile run in 11.38 seconds, ahead of John who records a respectable 12.85 seconds.
