Lots of Potential

The proverbial paint is barely dry on the 2022 Ford Maverick, and yet, it seems that more than a few folks have already wrecked their brand new pickups. There are currently 19 of them up for grabs at Copart, which is pretty astounding. However, for anyone looking to get their hands on this hot new pickup, it may be worth putting in the work to make one of these as good as new.

Market Conditions

With Mavericks in short supply and markups reaching silly levels (especially for what is supposed to be a cheap truck), buying a wrecked example that doesn't need too much work could turn out to get a boon for anyone with the skills and the time to do so. In that case, there are some mildly wrecked Mavericks here worth looking at.

Parts Bin

On the flip side, some of these trucks are probably nothing more than part farms at this point, thanks to a pretty big hit or two. Of course, anyone interested in fixing up one of these trucks could always score a less salvageable example as well to use as a parts provider.

Bed Problems

The biggest job on some of these unibody Mavericks is likely replacing the bed, which isn't quite as easy to remove as one from a body-on-frame vehicle like the Ranger or F-150. Regardless, it can be done, with a little bit of elbow grease and the right parts.

In Person Visit

On the flip side, there are plenty of trucks here with milder damage, though it's difficult to tell if there is any underbody damage on most of them. That's one of the risks one takes when buying a salvaged vehicle, however, and it can pay to take a trip and check these things out in person before placing a bid.

Satisfying Process

Regardless, we've seen plenty of YouTubers make careers out of buying salvaged vehicles like these and fixing them up, documenting the entire process on camera. It's a satisfying thing to participate in and watch, which is a nice side benefit.

Risk and Reward

Of course, there is a lot of risk in taking on a project like this, but the rewards are also equally big, if not bigger. So if you're one of the many folks that are been trying to buy a Maverick with no luck, perhaps one of these pickups is the way to go.
