Big Improvement

It's no secret that the third-generation Ford F-150 Raptor is a pretty quick truck in stock form. However, there's always room for improvement, and that's precisely where the new Hennessey VelociRaptor 600 comes into play. To demonstrate just how much of an improvement the Texas-based tuner truck represents, Hennessey recently pitted it against a stock Raptor in a drag race.

Stock Truck

On one side, we have the stock F-150 Raptor, which comes from the factory sporting Ford's twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, which is rated to produce 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. That powerplant is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to either the rear or all four wheels.

Fortified Raptor

The VelociRaptor, on the other hand, has been treated to a host of go-fast upgrades including a high-flow air induction system, air-to-air intercooler, larger intercooler piping, and an Engine Management software upgrade, all of which helps the fortified pickup produce 558 horsepower and 672 pound-feet of torque at the crank.

Big Improvements

Hennessey says that this power boost helps the VelociRaptor reach 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in 12.9 clicks, which is a big improvement over the stock Raptor's times of 5.2 seconds and 13.9 seconds, respectively.

Immediate Gap

Of course, all that really matters is how these paper numbers translate to the real world, which is what we get to see in this video. Needless to say, the power advantage held by the VelociRaptor is clearly on display, as it leaps off the line right from the start, putting an immediate gap on the stock Raptor.

No Photo Finish

That gap only grows as the VelociRaptor continues to pull away from its stock counterpart at an alarming rate, leaving it far behind in the rear-view mirror by the time both cross the finish line.

Power Game

Overall, the results of this race are precisely what we'd expect from two vehicles that are essentially identical, other than the fact that one has a lot more power than the other. Regardless, it's still nice to see what a little extra juice can do for Ford's popular off-roader.
