Gigantic Super Duty Delivers the Mail In the Toughest of Climates
Not just any old Grumman LLV can deliver the mail in Yellowstone during the winter.
Tougher Conditions
Postal workers are known for delivering the mail in all sorts of harsh conditions, including snow and ice. But there are places in the world where the Grumman LLV your local mailman drives just won't cut it. Places like Yellowstone National Park, where 120 residents are forced to turn to snowmobiles to get around during the winter. Thus, the park employs this gigantic Ford Super Duty to deliver the mail in the wintertime, as well as much-needed supplies.

Solid Combination
Park rangers cover roughly 150 miles each week delivering the mail and other goods, as The Drive discovered. It also got all the details on this mammoth machine, which is based on a Ford F-550 with FoMoCo's mighty 6.7L Power Stroke turbodiesel V8. Park officials left that torque monster alone, mainly because it doesn't need any more power than it already has.

Massive Rubber
They most certainly didn't leave the rest of this huge mail truck stock, however. Rather, it rolls on beastly 560/60R22.5 Michelin CARGOXBIB high-flotation tires, which are wrapped around 10-lug steel wheels. To make room for that large amount of rubber, the suspension received quite a few modificaitons.

Fortified Suspension
The front suspension mounts were relocated to make room for the giant tires up front, where you'll also find a Detroit Locker Super 60 differential. Torklift Stableload blocks lie out back to help with payload, and the truck sits 8 inches higher than stock thanks to a lift.

Heck of a Bus
Yellowstone's crazy mail truck isn't the only notable machine you'll see in nature's masterpiece, of course. Park visitors can also scope out these lifted Ford vans which are used to shuttle guests around in, no matter where they might want to go.

Getting Around
Or, when the terrain gets extra rough, we have this insane Super Duty-based bus that rides on tracks. But when you're talking about a park that requires bulldozers and large tractors to remove snow each winter, these sort of things are pretty much a requirement for getting around.
