Ruling the Sales Charts

When it comes to trucks, Ford rules the sales charts, and we aren't just talking about the venerable F-Series. The Blue Oval is also the producer of the world's best-selling commercial vehicles, and has held the title here in the U.S. for a staggering 35 years now. Of course, you don't hold on to something like that for that long without making constant, continuous improvements, and Ford has quite a few of those in store for 2021 and 2022 model years.

Bridging the Gap

First up is the all-new F-600 Super Duty chassis cab, which is now available to order with a delivery target of summer. The F-600 somewhat bridges the gap between Class 5 and Class 6 trucks, offering up many of the features present in the latter, including the same gross vehicle-weight rating, 19.5-inch wheels, and uprated driveline and chassis components. The difference? It all comes in a package that looks more like a traditional Class 4 Super Duty.

Running on Gas

Next up is a gaseous fuel prep package for Ford's new 7.3-liter V8 gasoline engine available in the current model year Super Duty F-450, F-550, and F-600 chassis cab trucks, Medium Duty, E-Series, and F-53 and F-59 stripped chassis vehicles. The package includes upgraded valvetrain components to withstand higher operating temperatures and lower lubricity of gaseous fuels so the vehicle can be converted by a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier to run on CNG or propane.

Air Supply

Next up, Ford is offering an integrated air compressor on 2022 F-650 and F-750 Medium Duty trucks equipped with the 7.3-liter gasoline engine. The compressor can be used to power air brakes, air suspension, and other accessories like air horns or air ride seats. Currently, air brakes are only available on diesel-powered trucks, so this is a pretty big deal for those looking to save a little cash.

Flex Fuel

Additionally, 2022 E-Series cutaways and stripped chassis equipped with the 7.3-liter gas V8 will gain flex-fuel capability in both premium and economy calibrations. This allows the van to run on gasoline, blends of up to 85 percent ethanol, or E85. Also new for E-Series cutaway is a scalloped engine access cover that provides additional legroom. The 2022 E-Series begins production in January 2021.

Fleet Options

Ford expects this to be a popular option for state and federal fleets, who might be looking for an affordable solution to meeting alternative fuel goals. Ford says their Medium Duty trucks with the 7.3-liter gas engine can cost up to $9,245 less than those equipped with the 6.7-liter diesel. And they're perfectly suited in applications with lighter-duty cycles, as well as annual mileage and torque requirements.

Customer Driven

All of these changes and updates are a perfect example of why Ford continues to dominate the commercial truck market. By listening to customers and giving them what they want, it's truly a win-win for everyone involved. And you can bet that this consumer-driven philosophy will continue to dominate Ford's strategy moving forward.
