Rivian Trucks Unveils Available On-Board Kitchen
Rivian’s all-electric truck features a fully enclosed camp kitchen —the latest of many clever innovations to come
Something's Cooking
The Rivian R1T has been hotly anticipated given its status as the first mass-produced all-electric pickup. But a spate of new features is also separating Rivian from the pack. Whether you’re an avid outdoor enthusiast, veteran tailgater, or simply like to leave your dining options open when you’re on the road, you’ll love Rivian’s most recently unveiled option: a fully-enclosed, onboard camp kitchen.

Hospitality on Wheels
The self-contained kitchen is one of a list of potential options that will be made available for the Rivian R1Y’s sealed-off storage area that’s located in the middle of the truck, between the cabin’s rear seats and the truck bed. The kitchen has been featured prominently in promotional materials with a mounted tent platform atop the pickup’s bed, another cool option for campers.

Take the Week Off
The Rivian R1T’s kitchen features an induction-heat cooktop that flips down for storage and runs off the vehicle’s battery pack. Rivian says a full week's worth of cooking three meals a day would consume an estimated 20 kWh or about eleven percent of the truck's largest available 180-kWh battery pack. That’s ideal for couples and families eager to go off the grid for a weekend, or if you’ve got a season ticket package for a big-time football program.

Food for Thought
The R1T’s kitchen feature also includes efficient storage space for plates and utensils. Rivian’s top brass have stated that a lot of the design and utility features found throughout the truck have been conceived through feedback acquired from consumers at outdoor and wildlife expos, notably the Overland Expo, the world's premier event series for do-it-yourself adventure travel enthusiasts. Overland is held annually in two events in both the eastern and western United States.

Dish Duty
At first glance, one might be curious about how one might clean up from a hearty meal prepared aside a trailhead or in a remote forest, but Rivian designers have thought that through. The pop-out camp kitchen is comprised of a two-burner cooktop and includes a small sink and water heating element. After all, bears like leftovers too.

Ultimate Outdoor Utility
Rivian says they will start production of the R1T pickup truck at the end of 2020, and the available kitchen feature won't be the only thing cooking. The truck is expected to have a range of over 400 miles and four electric motors that are anticipating to deliver a combined output of 754 horsepower and with 826 lb-ft of torque. Preliminary data has the truck reaching zero-to-sixty MPH in just three seconds with 100 mph taking less than seven seconds. With that kind of gas-free acceleration, outdoor enthusiasts and pick-up truck fans will find themselves in the middle of nowhere in no time.
