Winning Them Over

There's no denying that Tesla has achieved what once seemed impossible, beginning life as a brand new, upstart all-electric automaker that has since become a massive success. Now, years later, Tesla is facing quite a bit of competition as automakers like Ford pump out quality EVs such as the Ford F-150 Lightning, which recently won over big-time Tesla fan, owner, and YouTuber Andy Slye.

Not a Fanboy

Slye has owned quite a few Tesla vehicles over the years, including a Model 3 and Model Y, though he isn't your typical fanboy. In fact, Slye makes it a point to review vehicles subjectively, not letting his personal bias get in the way of giving us good information. And that's once again the case with this recent video review of the F-150 Lightning.

Pros and Cons

That includes pointing out some flaws with various Tesla models, which has resulted in Slye getting some flack from that particular community, but personally, we want to know all the bad along with the good when it comes to different vehicles. In this case, he's going down the list of everything he likes and dislikes about the F-150 Lightning, which he was able to test as his friend owns the truck.

Massive Frunk

In that regard, Slye gives the F-150 Lightning's Mega Power Frunk a big thumbs up for its sheer size and utility, as well as all the features present like grocery bag hooks and a multitude of power outlets. He is critical of the FordPass app, however, which cannot currently open or close the frunk at the moment. But of course, updates are inevitably on the way.

Power and Comfort

Slye also loves the Lightning's Pro Power Onboard feature, which he checks out by plugging up his Model Y and giving it a charge to test it out. In the meantime, he praises the truck's massive cabin and abundance of passenger space, which is a trademark of the F-150 in general. The overall premium feel of the interior is also a big plus, compared to the very simple and not terribly luxurious Tesla cabins.

Impressive Performance

Out on the road, Slye notes that the Lightning offers up impressive performance - essentially more than a long-range Model Y - as well as solid handling to boot. These are the types of characteristics that typically aren't associated with trucks, but the battery's location underneath gives it a low center of gravity and a big leg up on ICE-powered pickups in that regard.

Highest Praise

After charging the F-150 Lightning, Slye notes that it continues to charge at a high rate up to 90 percent, while Teslas typically begin to taper off around 80 percent, giving it another feather in its cap. Ultimately, he walks away seriously impressed, saying that the Lightning is "the most powerful, the most useful, and the most comfortable pickup I've ever driven." In fact, he sees it as a suitable replacement for the ICE version, which is sure to be a controversial opinion, also a very high form of praise.
