One Cool Oil Burner

Massive, luxury-laden, diesel-powered, heavy duty trucks are big business these days. But back in the '80s, that wasn't generally the case. At least not in the luxury department. Trucks like this 1986 F-250 we spotted over at Hemmings were more of the bare bones variety. But that doesn't make this amazingly clean oil-burner any less cool. In fact, it might just make it more so.

Two Owner Special

Not that this big Ford is spartan by any means, as it's an XLT Lariat with power everything. But that's about as luxurious as pickups got back in this era. And we kinda like 'em that way. Especially when they've lived under just two owners, as this particular F-250 has over the years.

Well Maintained

This F-250 originally lived its life in Alaska, so you might imagine that it would be in pretty rough shape. But that isn't the case at all. A camper shell helped keep the bed in great shape, and the truck has very little rust, too. That can be partially attributed to the fact that Alaska uses a sand mixture on its roads, not metal-eating salt.

Few Blemishes

There are, of course, quite a few niceties on the inside as well. They include things like a thick carpet, air conditioning, an AM/FM radio with cassette, power windows, power door locks, tilt steering, and cruise control. There aren't many blemishes here either, except for a non-operational tachometer.

Pretty Flawless

There are no tears in the vinyl seats, and the headliner isn't sagging. The carpet and adorning trim appear to be in great shape, too. The seller did replace a non-working speaker some time ago and has upgraded the air conditioning to R134 to bring it up to modern standards.

Diesel Power

Under the hood, you'll find the truck's original International Harvester-built 6.9-liter IDI (Indirect Diesel Injection) engine. The naturally-aspirated diesel may not be a powerhouse with just 170 hp, but it is reliable. The seller has done some recent work to the motor as well, including replacing the glow plugs and injectors.

Vintage Choice

This very cool and unique F-250 has just 116,000 miles on the clock today, so it's obviously got a lot of life left in it. And personally, we'd rather have this old workhorse in our garage than any of those fancy new heavy-duty pickups!
