Tragedy Strikes

This year's King of the Hammers race is underway, and as usual, has attracted some pretty amazing machinery - all of which will attempt to conquer some of the most difficult terrains on earth. There are more than a few new Broncos at the annual off-road extravaganza, of course, though this entry from Kracker Fab Motorsports almost didn't make it, thanks to an unexpected fire.

Little Spark

The team at Kracker Fab was well on their way to getting this wild Bronco build put together for KoH, as the interior and wiring had just been wrapped up when a spark unknowingly got past the welding blanket. It sat in the seat for several minutes, and when Josh Atteberry - a worker at the shop - went next door, it ignited into a serious fire.

Just in Time

Luckily, Atteberry's co-driver, Jack, showed up just after he walked out, and was able to spring into action and put the fire out with a hose before the whole building went up in flames. As such, the damage caused by the fire was limited mostly to the Bronco's interior, claiming the seats, much of the dash, and the center console.

Mad Scamble

Luckily, after posting this sad news on social media, Kracker Fab's friends from the off-road community sprung into action and helped them secure the parts they needed to not only repair the fire damage in the vehicle, but also finish it just in time for KoH - which they only had around two weeks to do, in typical TV car show fashion.

Major Upgrades

Ultimately, they were able to get everything they needed to finish this build, which is rather impressive in its own right. The team at Kracker Fab removed everything they possibly could in the name of weight reduction, and then added 74Weld portal axles, a total Performance Steering Components setup, ADS Racing shocks, and a 14-bolt rear end from Ballistic Fab.

Making It Happen

Ultimately, Kracker Fab was able to make it happen, and showed up just in time for King of the Hammers with a complete and driveable vehicle. It's an amazing feat for sure, but one that wouldn't have been possible without a ton of hard work and a lot of help from a pretty amazing community.
