Behind the Scenes

This year's SEMA Show once again impressed with seemingly endless displays of parts and project vehicles, but there's obviously a lot that goes on behind the scenes to make it happen. When a new vehicle like the third-gen 2021 F-150 Raptor launches, Ford ensures that aftermarket companies have access to CAD designs and the vehicle itself so that those companies can design and build parts, or entire custom rigs like this Raptor from Addictive Desert Designs.

New Truck, New Paint

Ford supplied ADD with this Raptor before it launched, which gave the company time to make it extra special before SEMA. Before ADD started wrenching on it, however, they sent the truck to John Condon at East Valley Collision for a brand new paint job that is black up front, transitioning to Ford's Leadfoot Gray at the back. Yellow striping complements those colors, while the Raptor logo remains out back where it originally was.

Front Bumper

Of course, this pickup features plenty of ADD-supplied parts, starting with its brand new 2021+ Raptor Bomber Front Bumper fitted with four Rigid 360 6-inch lights that also tout custom amber lenses. At each end of the bumper, you'll find a pair of Rigid D-Series Pro Spot Cube lights as well.

Out Back

In the rear, ADD fitted this pickup with its 2021 Raptor Bomber Front Bumper that features two rear-facing Rigid D-Series Pro Spot Cube Lights. Both bumpers were then painted Leadfoot Grey, and the panels and skid plate were powder coated in Satin Black. The finishing touches include a black-painted tow hitch frame and receiver that were also clear-coated after the paint was laid down.

Nifty Feature

In the truck's bed, ADD installed a pair of its Universal Tire Carriers that hold two full-size spares in case things go very wrong on the trail. Also mounted in the bed is an ADD PRO Chase Rack that holds a total of five additional Rigid 360 6-inch lights with custom amber lenses. The mount that holds those lights is controlled with an actuator that can lower the bar and lights to rest below the roofline for fitting into tight spaces like a garage.

Rolling Stock

ADD's 2021 Raptor rolls on a set of BF Goodrich Baja T/A 37-inch Desert Race Tires. which are wrapped with ADD's 17-inch F-150 Raptor ADD PRO Wheels. The wheels were painted Leadfoot Grey to match the rest of the truck, while the beadlock rings were painted yellow for contrast. Finally, a set of ADD Offroad Ford F-Series Rock Slider Side Steps finished in hammer black powder coat with fully gusseted bottoms round out this sweet build.

Early Example

The end result of those upgrades is certainly one of the more unique F-150 Raptors we've seen, as well as one of the very first modified third-gens out there. But there will certainly be more to come, as owners have proven in the past that they love to modify these already capable pickups in all sorts of ways.
