1. The Spark Plugs are Misfiring

If your spark plugs have worn or broken tips, then this is an indication that they are misfiring. Problems with ignition can cause your truck to vibrate. First, use a diagnostic tool to determine which plug is misfiring. Replacing the spark plugs yourself is a pretty simple job; refer to our helpful article to get the job done right.

2. The Fuel Injectors are Dirty or Clogged

If the fuel injectors in your Ford truck are dirty or entirely clogged, this issue will affect the performance of the engine. If the shaking is intense, then a clogged fuel injector is likely to blame. Before checking their condition, you'll need to depressurize the fuel system and disconnect the battery. Refer to Step 2 of our helpful guide to diagnose and remove the fuel injectors.

3. The Hoses are Leaking

Hoses that are cracked, leaking, or altogether broken will cause your truck to shake or vibrate when in motion due to vacuum leaks. If you can't determine whether or not a hose is leaking, then the next best step is to spray soapy water on the suspicious hoses. If you see bubbles form on the hose's surface, then you've got a leak, and the hose will need to be replaced. If the culprit is a radiator hose, here are two helpful articles for replacing upper and lower radiator hoses in the F-150.

4. The EGR Valve is Bad

The EGR valve, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, is responsible for transporting gases back to the combustion chamber, which leads to better engine performance and cleaner emissions. If the EGR valve is bad, then it will make the engine run too lean and thus cause the truck to shake at cruising speeds. The process for troubleshooting the EGR valve to determine whether or not it's working properly is somewhat involved. Click here to read Step 4 of our step-by-step guide for detailed instructions.
