Compressed Process

Nothing gets our motor going like a good sixth-gen F-Series pickup. And there are few things in life as satisfying as watching a 1978/1979 Blue Oval pickup undergo an extensive restoration. But while that process is often tedious and time-consuming, we can watching this 1979 F-350's total renovation in a tidy 14 minutes in this cool video from Austin Coulson.

Attention Needed

This classic pickup wasn't in terrible shape, to begin with, but it definitely needed some attention on a number of key areas. There were the typical dents and dings around the body, as well as some rust in the rocker panels and passenger side window to address, and the truck didn't appear to be running when it arrived at the shop.

Change of Plans

Once Coulson dug into the original 400 cubic-inch V8, he found that it was too far gone to save without pumping a ton of money into it. Thus, he replaced it with a 460 from a 1996 F-350, which also needed a rebuild itself, a job that he took on to ensure that this soon-to-be pristine pickup was running perfectly when it was completed.

Complicated Procedure

One of the most difficult repairs on the entire truck was a nasty-looking dent on the passenger side behind the door, which Coulson had to massage quite a bit to make perfect. He created a custom tool to make this happen, and eventually, it was like-new again. But most people would have probably just cut it out and welded in a new piece of metal.

Fresh Coats

Once all the bodywork was completed and the drivetrain was in place, Coulson stripped the pickup down to the bare metal before giving it some fresh coats of white paint. And the end result of that work is undeniably excellent, to say the least.

New Threads

The original interior was ratty and ripped up as well, so it came out in favor of brand new threads, too. While everything was out of the cab, Coulson took advantage and added some additional sound deadening material for a quieter ride, which will undoubtedly pay off down the road.

Easy to Digest

Throw on some fat tires, a new cooling system, and four-wheel disc brakes, and we've got a seriously cool, albeit slightly modified vintage Ford pickup. We're obviously fans of what Coulson has done here, but we also appreciate that he was able to condense this complicated process down for easy digestion in one single video.
