Pure Class

These days, we rarely feature pickups that aren't lifted four-wheel drive models. But in the old days, before factory four-wheelers, the street rod look still dominated the scene. Most of them feature more billet than an aluminum factory and ridiculous body mods that dull the beautiful lines of these already stunning pickups. But this amazingly clean and well designed 1940 Ford pickup featured over at Hot Rod is nothing but pure class.

Hot Rod Family

The stunning ride belongs to Dylan McDowell of Stouffville, Ontario, Canada, a guy whose love of hot rods stretches back to childhood. Growing up in a car-loving family helped teach him a thing or two about what's cool and what's most certainly not. And they also provided him the opportunity to build this very truck.

Grand Vision

When the young man was only 12, his great-grandmother purchased this very pickup for him to wrench on. Of course, it was a total basket case at the time. Two years later, he began wrenching on the beaten up pile with a vision toward something great.

One Last Helping Hand

Sadly, it was around this time that McDowell's great-grandmother passed away. But she left him one last helping hand to pursue his passion in the form of an inheritance. Thus, with the assistance of his father, the young man learned to weld and wrench on his old Ford pickup.

Drop it Low

First, McDowell picked up a Chevy S-10 frame from a local swap meet. He stripped it down, C-notched it, and added a four-link out back. Firestone airbags are the catalyst for sitting this pickup on the ground, which gives it a signature look. But the crowning touch is a set of old school steel wheels with shiny chrome hubcaps and wide whitewall tires.

Sensing a Theme

The hot rod spirit continues inside, where you'll find a 1940 Ford car dash filled with a mix of original and Classic Industries gauges. The steering wheel is a '37 Ford banjo piece, and the remaining bits were stitched up in a contrasting red and white pleated vinyl.

Crowning Touch

Despite the foreign frame, McDowell stuck to Ford when it comes to power. The 302 V8 under the hood came from a 1970 Mustang, but it sports an old-school three deuce intake with triple Holley carbs. And it's the perfect crowning touch for a truck one young man found his way with!
