I found this part to be ANNOYING to remove, simply because I snapped off a corner piece (as you can see in the picture) - however, if you are replacing your serpentine belt and don't plan on removing the outer fan shroud that requires the removal of the fan/clutch assembly, I found it necessary to remove this piece.
