I have a 2000 F350 PSD that quit on me last night. I thought I was having problems with some bad diesel as it would die sometimes and surge quite a bit. I changed out the fuel filter and put in some cleaner to help it a little. Drove down the rode, still had the surge with a little white smoke. Got into my driveway and almost to the house and it died and will not start. Even after it cooled down. Anyone have any ideas?
you may have hydro-locked the engine, maybe with a bad injector o-ring. Diesel fuel and oil do not compress and if you have them leaking into your cylinder they will stop the piston--especially if the engine speed is low
I went through something similar and learned to check/replace the cam sensor often. It’s located under the main fan pulley and is relatively cheap. I now keep an extra in my toolbox in the truck.
In my case it was part of the sickness, but not the disease. However I learned that they will go out quickly and that often times when they do, it smokes. A quick way to find out is to run the codes on the computer.
The tach does move when you turn it over. I checked last night and didn't here the fuel pump running when I first turn the key on without starting it. I think that might be my culprit. Going to try and fix this weekend. Thanks for everyones help.
I have a 2000 F350 in Alaska which does not like to start sometimes. When this happens and the batteries get low I have to disconnect the batteries and get a full charge on them. When they are charged and hooked back up the truck starts fine (after a few hours with the block heater plugged in). I have been told that the computer is sensitive to voltage and when it gets below a certain level the system shuts down.
