What is this noise in the lower front left engine bay
The truck is essentially a brand new (500 miles) XLT V8 4x4, went and visited a friend who lives in the sticks, nothing crazy, just a few miles of dirt/gravel roads. The next morning I start the truck and hear the sound in the attached video. After having a small heart attack I realized to me it sounds like a rock stuck somewhere but for the life of me, I can’t find the accursed thing. For my peace of mind if anyone with some experience could tell if this sound is rock I would appreciate it and probably sleep better. I’ve taken it to ford but the sound goes away if I’m within a mile of the dealership (it knows). I’ve showed ford the video and they seemed pretty confident it was a rock and that it would fall out “eventually”. The sound comes and goes, usually under load/ around speed bumps is when I hear it. The video was at idle but the sound has died down since then. “Light” metallic random pinging is how I would describe it now.
After thousands of miles of dirt roads and many rocks caught in places making noise, i never had a rock make any sound when stationary. I dont think there is any place a rock can get to where the engine or belts and accessories spinning would make that noise. There was a thread somewhere here or in the Superduty section of a similar sound. I thought those guys had some piece of metal or bolt in the tranny bell housing or something like that. Again, i dont think a rock should be making that sound at stationary idle.
Ya man, I've never heard anything like that in my life and we live on dirt roads.....however, this does seem to be the most likely explanation....god speed
