2018 f250 with 6.2 engine. new battery and starter no start. 1st time trying after starter replacement it started but sounded like starter stayed engaged and grinded so i shut it off quickly. Checked to make sure everything was hooked up correctly and tried again. Starter just growled a little and nothing. battery negative terminal hot to touch and solenoid hot too. seems like a major short somewhere?? going to check ground wire to engine today but any help would be appreciated. when i looked at old starter it looked like the copper piece from solenoid to starter was melted.
just put truck on my code reader and got code for misfire and crank positioning sensor. trying to locate sensor. i guess its under intake manifold? nothing easy on this truck.
I'm sorry I got ahead of myself. I went to start truck a few days ago and it just turned over a few times real slow. I don`t drive it every day in summer so i thought maybe just needed a charge. Hooked my old sears battery charger with 200 amp boost to it and still just barely turned a few times. I thought something odd was happening because that always started anything I have ever driven even my old diesel truck. So i took battery out and took to battery world. Guy checked it out and said it was low but still good and should of started truck, especially with 200 amp boost. He said probably starter which was what i figured. said battery was over 4 yrs old probably last several months but i bought a new one. went home put battery in and tried it just for the heck of it. just turned over a few times real slow. Almost sounded like trying to start a seized engine. So i went and got a new starter an installed it. tried it and it turned a little faster and caught but sounded terrible and grinded so i shut down quickly. checked to make sure i installed correctly and there's really no way to do it wrong. so i tried one more time and got the slow growl of a turnover. shut it off and felt battery and negative post hot and copper wire going from solenoid to starter hot also. never thought to look for codes so today i did and got misfire and crank positioning sensor. been looking online and saw somewhere that crank sensor could cause starter to bind up or blow .
