1980 F-100 Instrument Cluster Swap Issues (Idiot Lights)
I’ve found myself to be in a bit of a situation. Last year I swapped my 1980 F-100 instrument cluster for a 1981-86 pattern instrument cluster with a tachometer and full-gauge package. I had to reconfigure the plug the best I could and for a time, most of the instruments on the dash seemed to work well enough for my purposes. After doing so, however, I noticed my truck has had charging issues and with some research finally discovered that my new instrument cluster is the culprit, specifically concerning the ammeter.
The issue is my 1980 cluster (which I kept) has a completely crippled white plastic housing and cannot be reused. In addition, the circuit board on the back of the old cluster may or may not be functional, which is the reason I changed it in the first place. With a completely different circuit board on the back of either cluster and a complete inability to find another 1980 pattern instrument cluster or any with the idiot lights, I find myself at a dead-end.
I have provided some pictures of the old cluster for reference. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, including how to find a 1980 cluster, or how to bypass the ammeter so the truck can charge again with the new dash installed.
The first link shows a jumper bypassing the warning light.
The second link has more details.
Franklin will be along so with a "step by step" instructions.
It's an easy fix. compared to what you have already accomplished.
