About to give up on my 450, looking for suggestions

Pretty much since new I've had a vibration in the rear between 40-47mph. I blew it off for the longest time. Every other speed is really smooth and it's a different vibration than say hitting a pothole and feeling it resonate through the truck. I can be on a perfectly smooth road and anything below or above the mentioned speed is fine. It has done it with 4 sets of tires including the factory ones. It's going to the dealer this next week but I'm just curious if anyone else has had this issue and fixed it? I've had these current tires balanced 4 times, tried balance beads and centrimatics with no change. I'm wondering if it's driveline related but what would cause that only at those speeds? I'm almost to the point of trading it in and getting a 350. Thanks

Driveshaft speed is tied to road speed, I bet you have a driveshaft that is not balanced correctly.

@cpobst

Do you experience the same vibration, at the same road speed, when towing a 5th wheel as when empty?

Or does the vibration disappear, or hit different, when loaded?

Its not as noticeable with our 5th wheel in tow but I can still feel it.

Is there an odd looking vibration damper installed on the roadside mounting bracket for your rear receiver hitch?

I think I know what you are referring to, I just looked and no I don't have anything like that. Should I?

Take and post several photos of your roadside rear frame rail hitch bracket.

We are not only looking for mounting holes on the rear receiver hitch side plate (roadside only), we are also looking for witness marks around those mounting holes, where a vibration damper may previously have been bolted, but was removed.

Build date of your truck please, per Federal Certification Label on door jamb.

Also, Warranty Start Date.

You can also inspect the rear driveshaft for where the balance weights are spot welded onto the tube. You may have lost one (I did on my '17) making out of balance at a certain rpm. I noticed a square rust spot on my driveshaft and then spotted the two weld marks where the weight used to be.

Print this out, and bring all paperwork from all prior visits to wheel and tire shops, driveline shops, and previous Ford dealers when you go in next week for your appointment.

The dealer can look up in OASIS what used to be called HVBOM (this has a different acronym now) that identifies every part that your VIN should have.

Ford has fitted vibration dampers to the F-450 pickup since the model was first introduced in 2008.

Note that the damper is only fitted to F-450 pickups with 19.5" tire and wheels, because the F-450 chassis cabs with the same tires and wheels still have a different frame, and a different suspension, and therefore have a different resonant frequency response.

When Ford changed the pickup frames for the 2017 model year, Ford changed the part number to the F-450 pickup damper (HC3Z), in calendar year 2016, for model year 2017 and up, until February 2023.

Before you give up on your 450 pickup, try this damper. If your truck was supposed to have it and never did receive it, then the right thing for Ford to do would be to install one at no cost.

Thank you, I'll do that and I'll follow up here on what if anything they do. Also I'll check the driveshaft for missing weights. Thanks guys 👍🏻

Has anyone been able to get it installed at no cost? Even if I have to pay and it works it'll be worth it.
