You get what you pay for.

If you want a good set of snap ring pliers, you'll need to head to an automotive store, or a tool store, and see what they have for options.

I have no idea what size you need but am happy with the heavy duty fixed tip 4 plier set in canvas pouch I got from McMaster-Carr. Use it on automobiles and tractors. They ship to your house/business.

HF is a mixed bag. Their hand tools are pretty good, usually, as long as you aren't doing it for a living. I fear the day I have to replace my pneumatic impact from them - I got one of the original Earthquakes, with IIRC 1200 lb-ft of torque, with 6 settings...in forward AND reverse. Darn good tool, takes off everything I want, and level 2 is almost a perfect 120 ft-lbs for installing lugnuts. They do make pretty good jacks though - I had bought a 4-ton Craftsman from Sears years back, replaced it in 3 months due to a leaky seal, 3 months later another leaky seal, I asked for my money back and bought a 4-ton from HF that I still have to this day (almost 20 years later). Guy at Sears claimed I'd be replacing that HF jack in a month...joke's on him, it has lasted longer than his job did.

I have the Lisle 38700 pliers. They're made for the Super Duty axle shaft snap rings. They sort of work, but I'm really not impressed with them at all. I've already warrantied a pair thinking they were defective, but it turns out to be either bad design or poor quality control. They COULD be a good tool with a couple of minor changes. The replaceable tips need to be better secured. The screws that hold them allow them to move under strain. They also never line up properly. One always protrudes farther than the other. The part of the tip that engaged the holes I the snap ring have absolutely nothing to make sure the snap ring stays on them under tension. Coating them with diamond dust or even simply adding serrations would solve this. Then, I wouldn't feel like I need to wear a Kevlar vest while using them. Also, the ratcheting locking mechanism is just too damn fiddly. I've seriously considered just removing it altogether.
