I've been seeing auto-retracting cargo straps for quite awhile now. Some mount to the boxlink mounts, some are just loose, but still have the auto-retract feature. I feel like my life is divided into two phases....having a bunch of straps that need to be rolled up and put away or resisting using them because I don't want to have to roll 'em back up when I'm done.
Has anyone tried these? I saw one brand that got marginal reviews. Lots of complaints about the spring breaking so they wouldn't retract anymore. I found some that mount to the boxlink that get decent reviews and they're on a universal joint so the spin and pivot, but they're only 10' long and rated for 400 lbs. Even with just a 5 1/2' bed, I could see 10' being too short.
I assume they are pretty handy, until the mechanism breaks. For me, I use straps infreqently, so I just want something that is simple and works and is cheap to replace if I lend it out. If I was strappping things down a few days a week, I'd probably try these out.
That's a good point. I probably don't use them enough to justify the cost. Plus, most are short enough that some of the time I'd have to augment with longer straps anyway.

Any thoughts or experiences with these?
I use these to tie down every thing from my trike to the bed in my toy hauler (it is a sofa bed) and I have never had one fail. I don't buy the really cheap ones (chinesium) so it has never been an Issue. I have like 15-20 in my flat utility trailer's box and like 10 in my toy Hauler's storage bays. I mention that because the space saving and lack of tangles out weighs the cost. One last point, I don't trust the cheap ones to tie down my 1300# trike, can't imagine a failure inside my toy hauler and having my trike banging around inside.
