Is there a correct direction the cluster gear countershaft should be removed when disassembling it from the transmission, getting ready to refurbish my T86 and don’t want to mess anything up.
Use a wooden dowel to drive out the shaft starting on the front end of the transmission. Leave the wooden dowel inside the cluster gear. Remove the shaft from the rear of the transmission. There is a pin holding the shaft in place that must be removed first.
Cut the wooden dowel the exact same length as the cluster gear. Now, I have the Ford transmission with the side cover. I understand the T86 has the top cover. I don’t know how different my transmission is from yours.
I seem to remember I had to remove the input shaft before I could get the cluster gear out.
