Awful big gap in the driver side fender
Gez, I guess i was gone for a long while and i let the ol girl get dirty and dusty. But she is in my sights again this spring and started back up on her. So I am at a standstill and not sure on what to do. I managed to get the front fenders close as possible to the firewall, but you can see that the driver side is rather a big gap. I am wondering if the inner fender is bent preventing me to push the fender closer to the cabin, I can't close the gap anymore , there is about 5/8 gap running down the back and at least 7/8 gap were the top of the fender is. The inner fender looks ok but it hard to tell. When i bought the truck it was just a pile of pieces. Any suggestions?
That's all perfectly normal. It's the way it was made. There is a large rubber seal that attaches to the fender with a lip that extends toward the cab to fill that gap. We also just had a recent discussion on this very subject. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ea-trucks.html
There is a large welt or gasket that fills that gap. I have learned here that the gap is designed to allow for the flexing of the frame. By the way, my front clip is not bolted down.
Yeah, wayback when i bought a set of inner fenders for it cause this didn't have any, but I couldn't tell if it was straight or bent. It looked normal because where it bolts up there is a heavy bracket. but it was curved. looked normal but i could be wrong. not looking to tear it all apart until i know for sure its bent. maybe someone has a good photo of a known straight one i can compare it too? Thank you for the reply! Ron
Yeah the more I look at it, I'm getting more convinced that the inner fender bracket is bent, here is another shot looking at where the mounts to the firewall, looks like its bent a bit compared to the other side.
