1994 F-150 OBS (5.0/5.8) - Hunting Idle & E4OD Not Shifting (Looking for Stamford, CT
1994 F-150, Fuel Injected (EFI).
1. Idle Issues: The RPM fluctuates and hunts constantly at idle.
2. Shifting Issues: The automatic transmission is completely refusing to shift correctly.
Context / Recent Work:
The automatic transmission was just recently completely rebuilt and reinstalled. Because the transmission is brand new, I am highly suspicious that this is an electronic or sensor communication issue rather than a mechanical failure inside the transmission itself.
From what I understand, the E4OD in these '94 trucks relies heavily on engine sensor data to command shifts. Since my engine RPM is fluctuating at idle, I'm wondering if a bad Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), Idle Air Control (IAC) valve, or a vacuum leak is throwing off the computer (PCM) and preventing the transmission from shifting.
Does anyone know a great OBS Ford mechanic or independent shop in the Fairfield County, CT / Westchester, NY area who actually knows how to run KOEO/KOER code diagnostics on these pre-OBD2 Fords?
Thanks in advance for any insights or shop leads!
Is this new after the rebuild or why the transmission was rebuilt?
