I have a 2015 Ford F150 4x4 with a 5.0 L engine and really need help with finding what’s wrong with it. I was trying to pull out some overgrown hedge bush trunks and roots the other day and I lost power and now it won’t crank back up. It just clicks. Why is this you reckon? I need to have this running to support my family. I’m at wits end with this thing. Please shoot some suggestions because I really can’t afford to buy a whole lot n out r put it in the shop
Thank you both for reaching back to me that quick. The battery is holding at 12.1v. That should be enough to crank it, but I did have jumper cables on it the other day thinking the same thing, Battery! But it was still the same click. I did notice yesterday that when it clicks it’s almost like you feel a little tug like it’s almost still in gear or something. What could that be?
Okay then, try check in the ground cables. If you see any corrosion on the cables. it's just best to replace them, rather than trying to clean them. Check the main ground from the battery, and the grounding cable from the frame to the body. If you see no corrosion, check to make sure they are tight.
That tug is a weird one. Is it all the way in park?
Have you tried the old hitting the starter with a hammer trick ... the clicking noise when you turn the key sounds like a lot of starter problems I've had in the past.
You could also try a completely different battery ... I've had vehicles that wouldn't take a jump because the battery was toast.
Thanks again for reaching out to me again. Yes it is in park and I’ve tried the hitting of the starter. I am though getting a Check Brake System on my instrument panel when I turn the ignition on. What does this mean?
IMO, it is the battery, cables, or starter. 12.1 should be enough to start it, albeit barely enough especially if you have a bad cell that breaks down under load. If battery is more than a few years old, and charged the best it will hold, that would be my first investment. We don't know your general driving habits (ie mostly short trips, or weekly interstate drives?) That plays into battery health and charging.
Thank you Spencer fur replying back. Having one heck of a time with trying to get the starter off(having big forearms and hands not meant for mechanics lol). That one freakin bolt holding it on. Anywho I have a battery charger on it now and will see if that’s the issue. I haven’t had this battery but for about 7 or 8 months and I’m a constant daily driver. Mainly short trips. I’ll get back with you on the batttery. I’m hoping that’s what is wrong with it because my patience with the starter has run too thin
The battery tested good and so did starter. The check engine light stays on and check brake system is on and still clicking n not starting. What does that mean?

Check fuse 27 for the fuel pump, check the relay as well.
Neutral safety switch could have went out too.
4x4 actuator motor could be stuck
put the transmission in Neutral and try starting it.
