Re-wired my 74 F100 and now it cranks but doesn't start
Even stale gas will burn, so year-old gas is not likely the issue. Or at least not the entire issue.
You can test for spark at the wires with a timing light and you don't even have to pull a plug or wire of.
A simpler first test would be to pull the coil wire and check for spark at the end of that.
Do you have a timing light? Did you remove/replace the distributor?
Points, or electronic ignition?
Check for voltage at the positive side of the coil.
Aside from spark, rack the throttle lever back a few times and look for fuel squirting into the carburetor. And instead of pouring fuel down the throat of the carb, pour some into the top bowl vents to fill up the float bowl.
This way, once it's running, it will run for several minutes on the normal bowl amount. So even if the pump is not working, you'll have more time to fiddle with it. And will know soon enough if the pump is working.
Speaking of fuel pumps.. If it's brand new, it might not be any good. But if it has been run before it sat, and then was not used for a year, it's VERY likely to be bad.
Back to spark though, depending on the ignition type, you need to check for power at the appropriate points. Coil positive, ignition module wires, etc.
A faulty ignition switch can work in the ON/RUN position, but fail in the START position. It will still crank the starter, but power drops out to the ignition. Very common.
That is where the Brown wire from the starter relay's "I" post comes in handy. But if the starter relay is shorted out, that same "I" terminal can kill the spark.
So other than the new wires, what other components are new?
And what harness did you go with? Painless has had a bad run of Dura Spark ignition wires lately, so was curious what you used.
