According to ChatGPT:
Ford Field Service Action (FSA) / Recall 26E01 is a software-related service campaign released by Ford on Feb 6, 2026. It is not always a safety recall; it is usually a software update performed by a dealer using Ford’s FDRS diagnostic system.
Vehicles impacted 2022-2026 Ford Super Duty (F-250/F350/F450)
The issue is with the Integrated Trailer Module (ITRM) software used for towing. Software bug can cause the module to lose communication with the truck when it wakes up or starts, truck may lose trailer brake lights, trailer turn signals, and possibly electric trailer brake control
Symptoms: Messages Like
"Trailer Brake Module Fault"
Rapidly flashing turn-signal indicator
Possible "Blind Spot Assist fault"
The Fix:
Dealer updates software using FDRS - 30 minutes
Some vehicles will receive fix via OTA starting March 17, 2026 - no more specific information about which vehicles will receive OTA fix
Fix will update APIM module (Synch 4 infotainment system) and Gateway module
3 Things to check after fix is applied
Trailer brake gain setting
Pro Trailer Backup Assist/Trailer Profiles\
Trailer light & brake output test
After fix is applied owners may notice - faster SYNC 4 startup improved Android Auto/Bluetooth stability
Access to "hidden SYNC 4 Diagnostic Menu" to confirm trailer module actually updated to new software version:
Turn truck ON (either engine running or accessory mode)
Press "Settings" on the screen
Scroll down and tap "General"
Tap "About SYNC"
Press and hold the "About SYNC" screen for ~10 seconds (any blank area on "About SYNC" screen) screen will change to "Engineering Test Mode"
Tap "APIM Diagnostics" ->Network / Module Information. The vehicle network will show every module on the CAN bus - you can confirm there are no module communication faults from here
Look for the module list and confirm "ITRM/TBCM/Trailer Module" if the module is present, shows software version, status = OK/communicating the update has been installed correctly
OP, Some of your text in that post isn't readable, can you change it to be black like the rest of the text. Not everyone uses the same screen settings.
I see the NHTSA reported "26V104" generated on 2/20/26 which is for the trailer modules, but for some strange reason only included the F250 F-Series trucks. This document also notes the manufacturer recall number as "26C10".
And here is an article on the "26C10" recall from Ford generated on 2/26/26 which is the same recall as above, but it now includes all F series trucks from the F250 - F600... which makes sense since the hardware is all the same, at least in the 250's and the 350's. I wouldn't imagine it would be different in the rest of them either.
The only "26E04" information I see is the AI generated response posted in the OP's post, and now CBEllis's post. There is nothing I can find about "26E04" on the NHTSA site though...
I just checked my app and the only recall I have is the old 22E04 update for my 22 F250, built in September 2021, so my truck falls in the time line for the trailer module recall dates. I went ahead and made a mobile service appointment to have that update done next week... I have been reluctant to have it done, and I may change my mind before then... we'll see. But no recall for either the 26E04 or the 26C10 yet. Maybe it will show up later? I guess I need to go ahead and get another Forscan trial membership again that way if I do have any of them done I can put my settings back after...
My dealer already called proactively today and a mobile tech is scheduled to perform this recall tomorrow afternoon.
Completed this last Wednesday - about 40 minutes for the mobile tech. He said both the PCM and TCM get updates. No noticed impact or change yet driving around town. I will be towing in a week or so and am crossing my fingers it included the update to also fix diesel gauges not available when a trailer is connected...

Which recall #(s) did you have done, and was it only one recall update since they did both the PCM and TCM?
This must explain why my trailer gain was set on 10 the other day after the update. I had towed the 5th wheel last week and then this week when I hooked it up it warned me that the trailer brake gain was 10 and that was not where I left it.

Anyone able to get into engineering test mode? Not working for me...
Did they say why they need to reflash the TCM also?
No - I asked which modules were updated because I have had some other known update related issues like the diesel measurement gauges not being available while towing, and the tech said the recall updated the PCM and TCM. I don't think he had any real in-depth knowledge of what FDRS was doing.

Diesel measurement gauges? Not sure what you mean but that. Are you talking about the DPF/Auto Regen? If you made any changes via Forscan to either the TCM or the PCM before he updated them, then you will have to go back in and change those back. His flash will rewrite the modules to your trucks stock settings. It's just as simple to go in and change them back though...
But that sounds about right... I have an appointment set up for this Friday to take care of an old recall (22E04) that I never had done, and if this trailer controller module update shows up by then he can do that one too... but I get so nervous about Ford doing anything to my truck because it works great right now, despite the recalls. I don't like the idea of them fidgeting with it and actually messing something up... I think I am going to just cancel that appointment.

The diesel gauge screen that includes turbo and exhaust brake measurements. It is a known issue at least for MY 24 that this screen disappears and is not selectable when a trailer is connected - there is supposedly an OTA update to address it but mine has never received it.
